How Difficult Is the Two-Day Premužić Trail Tour?

Velebit

A hiker on Velebit

The Premužić Trail is known for its gentle gradients and relatively easy terrain, making it accessible to a wide range of hikers. However, walking it over two days still requires a reasonable level of fitness and the ability to spend several hours on your feet.

Much of the trail follows rocky terrain, with some narrow and uneven sections where you need to watch your footing. Hiking boots with good grip and walking poles are recommended, especially on slippery or wet surfaces.

Mountain weather can also affect trail conditions. Rain, strong winds and sudden temperature changes are possible, so suitable clothing and equipment are essential, even during the warmer months.

I’m I fit enough for this walk?

At a minimum you need to be able to walk 6-8 hours a day up to 20km. carrying a backpack weighing 7kg. There will be opportunities for short brakes, including a lunch break.

If you have any medical conditions that could impact your hike, such as a knee injury, previous surgery, asthma, diabetes, or pregnancy, please inform us when booking your tour. This is not to prevent you from joining us, but to help us ensure your safety, prevent potential injuries, and be prepared in case of an emergency.

How to get in shape for the hike

To prepare for the hike, we recommend starting an exercise routine to improve fitness, strength and cardio. Begin with daily walks around your neighborhood, gradually increasing the distance to comfortably walk over 15km in a day. Start training on flat terrain, gradually progressing to uneven ground and hills.

Train in the footwear and socks you’ll wear on the hike to avoid blisters. Gradually add weight to your backpack until you’re carrying 7kg. If you plan to use walking poles (which we highly recommend), practice with them.
